perfect red lip x

Because we all need a nice departure from lip balm. Especially mid-week. I love a mid-week red lip. And it will go with the Victory Rolls you learned how to do Tuesday AND Valentine's day is just around the corner. So yeah. Red lips, right?

Start the night before by using the new toothbrush exfoliation method you learned on Style Surround ;) ...and then pile on the lip balm before bed so your kisser is silky soft in the morning. OR if you are wearing your red lip in the evening, an a.m. scrub will work too; you just don't want to scrub too close to when you're going out as your lips will feel a bit tingly and irritated- great for making them lovely and pouty, not the best for applying lipstick.

Apply your face makeup as normal but add a bit more concealer around the lips so you get a nice clean finish. A little cream concealer or even a smudge of foundation on the lips now will help the red stay put later!

 

 I absolutely recommend a lipliner first. It makes the red last and keeps it from migrating outside the lipline. Line along the outside to accentuate the natural shape, then blend down into the lip like so:

 

Now for lippy! You can apply yours with a lip brush, or straight from the tube. I like the lip crayons like Clinique's chubby sticks. I'm using a Rimmel lip crayon and I like it very much. It's creamy and smooth, gives good cover and has just the right balance between glossy and matte

So the old trick of applying, blotting, applying again? I think it works. Especially with red as it helps to kind of stain the lip so even when the lipstick wears off a bit you still have colour.

I like to tidy up the edges with a cotton bud, then perfect the outer lip with a bit more liner.

Voila! Beautiful, sultry red lips. Va-va-voom! Ps.. This method will work for any strong coloured lipstick. Just make sure you match your liner and lippy within one or two shades and blend!
