Victory Rolls! by Tia B-C

Hi guys!
I'm going to show you how I would do a victory roll... There are several ways of doing these; I'm going to show you a simple 'front roll version' but you can roll your curl the other way for the more traditional 'v shape' roll. Now guys, this is how I (lacking in time and possibly without my 3 year old tugging at my leg) would achieve this but by all means it is not the only way you can do it. A good note about this style is that you don't have to have long hair to achieve a lovely result, I have short/mid length hair and it works great. Now let's get started on this fun iconic 40's hairstyle...

This is equipment you will need...

- comb with a pointed end - hair spray - dry shampoo (optional) - bobby pins/curby grips - bandana (again optional)

First it always easier to style 2nd day hair as it will hold it's shape better. To begin you will need to already have a bit of a curl in your hair (as this will help you with the roll) so for people like me who have curly, thick hair I would advise roughly straightening/or blow drying it and for the others with straight hair, pop some curlers in or curl with irons. Starting point...

Now set your hair to a side parting, OR where you would like your roll to lie and split the larger side into two.... (it might help to clip the rest of your hair out if the way).

Now, using your comb take one section (I always take the one closest to the middle) and brush it out in front of you. Spray some dry shampoo into the root and brush out slightly (you don't have to use this but I find it gives the hair some stability.)

You then need to lightly back comb this section, not loads but just enough to give yourself a good starting point.

Using one hand (I use my left) place the section on hair between your index and middle finger about half way down. Then taking your other hand (same fingers) grab the bottom of your hair and roll your fingers back on themselves to make a roll..

Depending on the length of your hair you should end up with the same hand that you started with at the bottom of your curl, on the top of your head.... Now do not move....

It's time for pinning....Still holding the curl in place take your first of many bobby pins and pin inside the curl (between your fingers), then another and another on both sides until it holds it shape with out your fingers (don't worry so much about the side closest to your ear as we're going to join another one to it)....

Now spray with hairspray .......

Ok now for the next one, follow the same instructions as before.. Brush out, spray with dry shampoo, back comb the root slightly then roll over two hands.

Remember to keep your fingers at the bottom of the roll and pin in place. So you should end up with something like this (again don't worry if the roll end closest to the middle is a bit messy because your going to join them together) don't forget to use your hair spray!!

So it's time for the fiddly bit!!! To join them together slightly push one into another, then pin inside, it might also help to pin behind and of course spray your little heart out!

Ta-dah !!!!!

You can either pull the rest if your hair into a ponytail at the back, or just let it hang with a ribbon tied in a bow to the side but my favourite is pinning your hair at the back and rolling finishing with a rolled up bandana!!!! Hurray! or, if you're Laura, "Awesome".

Thanks so much everyone, I hope you have lots if fun creating your own victory rolls! x
