Tie one on! (for beginners).

Continuing on an accessory vibe and at an indirect request from a loved one, I'm gonna tie on some scarves for you today!

I'll start with a long lightweight scarf in one of my all time favorite prints, la-la-la-leopard! Your scarf, however, does not need to be leopard print. Just in case you were wondering (silly!).

First smooth it between your hands and place it behind your neck holding each end in one of said hands. Next pull to the right a little bit so there is more of the scarf to the right of your head than to the left.

Pull the right end across the front of your neck and back around your head (gently! Don't strangle..) so you end up with the scarf looped softly around ze neck and an equal-ish amount of scarf in each hand once more.

Now depending on what you are wearing there are a couple ways to wear this scarf; you can loop right over left in a basic knot, wiggle it loose a little at the neck so its comfortable, fluff the knot a bit and let it waterfall down, like so:

OR loop it around your neck once more before knotting, pulling it over to the one side of your neck a bit and tie so the knot is a little off-centre. It's still a nice long drape but just gives a different look.

You can also try either of these ties back to front; as in tie them on backwards so the ends hang down your back for glam spin.

Now a slightly heavier woven wool one to keep us warm. Poof it up a bit in your hands and place behind neck as before. (my scarf is wrinkly because I don't iron and I don't like looking too pristine, but iron or steam yours out for a smoother, possibly more grown up look..)

Pull to the right and again loop around the neck. This time drape the scarf over your neck and collarbone without pulling too tight so it just rests there beautifully.

If you're happy with how this looks then leave the ends dangling. For a warmer wrap tie up the ends in a basic knot just as before. I tend to tie my scarves off to the right to add a little interest, but see what works for you after having a little play! You will want to keep the knot nice and relaxed on this style of scarf though, so as not to suffocate yourself of course but also because it looks nicer.

Next a little weeny neck scarf. My choice today is again a leopard print. Am I getting predictable?

If its a square fold it into a triangle, then pull onto and around the front of your neck. Yes, like a bib, but only for a sec.

Then pull the ends around and across each other and tie in the front. You'll have to give the ends a good tug round to get it tied in the front, but once fastened you can give it a wiggle until comfortable. This tie looks pretty on top of high-necked, un-collared shirts for a sort of french look, or with basically anything instead of a necklace.

Try to avoid wrapping neck scarves into a strip and tying to one side of your throat, unless you're channeling air hostess-chic or you are in fact Jackie-O.

Tie your scarf around the elastic of your ponytail or the base of your bun for something different. It's like a chic scrunchie.

Now let me see your favorite scarf ties! I know everyone is at least thinking about wearing them at this time of year, and I also know that most of you LOVE wearing scarves! Show me your tie-ups on the Style Surround Facebook page!

Much love amigos, happy wrapping xx
